Lord,
You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth (2 Kings
19:15). You are God over our nation. We are grieved over the
condition of our nation, and we know You are even more grieved.
As a nation, we have forsaken You. We have turned to our own
ways. Even Your church has moved far from Your ways. Forgive
us, Lord. Have mercy on us, and draw us back to Your path. Bring
us to true repentance. Begin the healing of our nation in us,
Lord.
Forgive us, Lord, for our complacency.
As a nation we have become self-satisfied and unconcerned, and
this attitude has permeated Your church as well. Our eyes are
so blinded that we don't even recognize that, like the church
in Laodicea, we are "wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and
naked" (Revelation 3:17). Even as our family personally
is going through a time of being refined in the fire that we
might become useful to Your kingdom, I ask You to do a similar
work in Your church in America.
You have called Your people to be
salt and light, a preserving influence in our nation and a light
to expose the darkness. Instead, we have become a laughingstock,
an object of ridicule by the world around us. Forgive us, Lord,
for failing to be what You've called us to be. Please don't spew
us out of Your mouth. Lord, deal with Your people, purify us,
bring us to true and deep repentance, so we will no longer be
a reproach to Your name. It's one thing to be rejected by the
world around us because they think we choose to walk in Your
ways, and entirely another thing to be rejected because we say
one thing and live another. Lord, have mercy on Your church in
America, for we have failed to be what You've called us to be.
Lord, Your word promises that You
will allow Yourself to be found by us when we seek You with our
whole heart (2 Chronicles 15:2). Lord, we do seek Your face.
We recognize that we need You desperately. We forsake our evil
thoughts and our wicked ways and turn to You, crying out for
Your mercy (Isaiah 55: 6,7). Lord, we lean on Your promise that
You reward those who earnestly seek You (Hebrews 11: 6). We lay
our requests before You and wait in expectation (Psalm 5: 3).
Please heal Your church in America. Please hear our cry and heal
our land.
